Game Development

My Everyday Life At Insect Academy is a bug-themed dating sim/horror visual novel I developed alongside my partner, LeskyLentils. The game was made in 24 hours for the 2023 Texas Game Jam, where it won Best Narrative. We later updated the game for the 2025 Queer Games Bundle, fixing some glitches, updating the protagonist's design, and adding an additional ending.
You can find it here on Itch.io!

I was in charge of the coding and the story. The game was made in Ren'Py, an open source game engine based on Python, so naturally it was scripted in Python. Additionally, I was in charge of bug testing and proofreading.
The gameplay is inspired by "choose your own adventure" books. Different choices the player makes can unlock or prevent later routes and endings.

My Contributions
It was actually my first wholly custom project in Python. I had modified some scripts in the past, and taken some online classes, but this was my first time really making something of my own with it. The code I wrote mainly raises and checks for flags based on the dialogue choices the player makes to determine variations in dialogue and outcomes. I also had to trigger the audio and art assets to play and change at the correct times.
