Twisting Paths
This was an Intaglio copper-plate carving I made for a class. I was not particularly happy with how it turned out at the time, and I do see areas I could have improved, but I think there's something to it regardless!
This is meant to depict a fairy-like world, with an infinite apple orchard that is both a little spooky and whimsical. As a novice artist, the processing of carving was quite difficult for me, and getting the fine details expected with Intaglio was far from easy, and a lot of it ended up getting lost in translation I think.
My struggling with this piece was what led me to try a different approach when creating "Off-Topic". I leaned into the imperfections and my amateaur art skills to make something that was specifically engaging with and commenting on amateaur art.
